“Connecticut River Views” - Ride departs at 9:30 from the Park and Ride, 21 Hoop Pole Hill Rd, Chester, CT for a 43 mile ride with 1900 ft of elevation gain. This is a very scenic mostly flat ride from Chester to Old Saybrook with a side excursion to Fenwick (Katherine Hepburn’s home) for the spectacular ocean view. Lunch, water and toilets at Saybrook Point (halfway) and a possible bathroom and ice cream stop later in Essex Village. Optional hill climb (Wig Hill) near the end of the ride for those who would enjoy an additional challenge and a nice downhill finish. Bring snacks and fluids. “Soapstone - Turnpike - Fire Dept” Meet at 8:00 AM at 38 Ninth District Parking Lot, Somers, CT (across from Somers Fire Department) for a 24 mile scenic ride with minimal numbered highways and a few new roads on its way by or up Soapstone Mtn on Gulf Rd. The climb is optional, but rewarded with a stunning panoramic view from the tower adding about 2 miles and 200' of climbing for a total of about 26 miles and 1900’. The last 5 or 6 miles of the ride are almost entirely descending on quiet roads. "Knightville Dam Adventure” - Ride departs at 10:00 AM from the rest area across from the Irving Gas Station,1400 Russell Rd. (Rt 20) Westfield, MA. Ride to Knightville Dam with optional climb to Knightville Dam Overlook. This is an out and back ride. 24.2 miles round trip. Add 4 miles for optional 2 mile climb to the overlook plus descent back to the picnic area. Total of about 1800 feet of elevation gain including the overlook, otherwise about 1600 feet.
